Meta Tags For Web and Blog Page.

1.) Basic html meta Tag Application:

INTRODUCTION:

A basic, and I mean “basic” understanding of meta tag html is very important to begin or optimize your Internet endeavor. DomainBean has in-depth discussions on html meta tag applications and their usefulness, or lack thereof. But for now you must understand what meta tags are, and how meta tags get applied.

You can see the html meta tags of most web pages by using your Web Browser’s “View” and then “Source” selections at the top toolbar of your browser.

html Meta Tags - Title, Description, Keywords

With your Firefox browser, place your cursor over the image above, right click, then click “view image.” Sorry you’ll have to look closely. More image resolution and it would take too long to load.

Now, not all browsers have this View/Source capability. I recommend that you get Mozilla’s Firefox Browser for this work as well as other Web tasks you will need to accomplish with your browser.

As you see, the meta tags for Title, Description and Keywords are high up the page between the <head> and </head> html code symbols.

  • Note: I went through Alexa’s Top 125 websites. This was the first site I came across that had “somewhat” applied html meta tags properly, well at least they used them. You must remember that sites like these have high rankings for many reasons, including the volume of inbound links and basic user popularity. So for meta tag applications they often bend the basic rules, don’t apply the rules at all, or have software that hides it from the page source. Oftentimes this can be an opportunity. Many websites just don’t apply meta tags properly and simply rely on other techniques for ranking, many of which would fall under what is considered Black Hat techniques. You, however, may not have thousands, or millions of dollars for ad placement and highly effective, expensive and much sought after inbound links (backlinks). With this in mind, you need to take advantage of the free tools available to you that will assist in launching your Domain, Website or Blog, and then have the opportunity to gain organic traffic.

“IMPORTANT” — Do Not Delete your existing browser, as some, like MSN, or Verizon DSL services require you to use a Particular, User Friendly but Feature Poor and Limited Version of the Internet Explorer browser to access and/or upgrade their included services.

Quite frankly you can have as many browsers as you like. Test the various browsers like Opera or Maxthon, Internet Explorer 6 or Internet Explorer 7, etc.

However, there is no doubt that today, Firefox is the Superior Internet Browser.

Okay, now to it.

First and foremost, begin with the premise that every page on your web site or blog should contain a:

· meta Title
· meta Description
· meta Keywords

These are ‘meta tags’ that are used by search engines to show what your page is about.

For instance, when you do a search on Google, Yahoo or MSN for a particular “keyword, search term, keyphrase or keyword phrase,” your webpage’s “meta title” shows up with your “meta description” underneath.
